Are you eating ‘clean’ but still not getting lean? It could be too many calories.
Even when you're eating the healthiest foods, if you're eating too much of them, you won't lose weight.
Energy (calories) consumption still needs to be less than the energy you expend in a day - through movement, smiling, laughing. There are so many ways to burn calories!
You need to burn more than you consume in order to lose weight. However, not all calories are created equal, not all calories from food are absorbed and not all calories from food are used as energy so counting calories is not necessarily the way to go.
The American Medical Association estimate that there 3500 calories in one pound of body fat, so if your goal is to lose 1lb (0.5kg) a week, you've got to eat a little less and burn some more! 🔥 🔥🔥
This does not mean cutting out meals and important nutrients, however it does mean eating them in the right portions based on you and your goals.
Restricting calories and still not losing? You may not be eating enough.
What's actually happening is that your body thinks it’s starving and entering fight or flight mode. It's going to hang onto every bit of fat it can so that it has something to survive off, since it has no idea when you're going to feed it again.
Your body wants to keep you alive. FEED HER/HIM.
Your body requires a certain amount of calories per day to function, add in to that daily movement, and then exercise and it will require more. It also needs certain nutrients to survive so if you are not eating enough it will not be able to function well.
Cutting out a meal is not the answer. It likely means that you are not getting all the daily recommended nutrients you need. Having a cuppa instead of food if you’re hungry will not give your body what it needs. Chewing gum in the hope that it staves off hunger is unlikely to work as it gets all your stomach juices working ready to receive food. That cannot be good for you right?
As you are probably gathering by now, it's all a clever balance. ⚖️
